Preliminary Bidding There are two ways of bidding on Copart. Preliminary bidding and Virtual Live Auction bidding. They both have advantages and disadvantages. Preliminary bidding was set up for bidders that can't be at a computer during the Virtual Live Auction or don't trust the reliability of their computer or internet connection. Preliminary bidding is simple and reliable. After logging in, you simply go to the vehicle page and enter, and confirm the highest amount that you are willing to pay for the vehicle. If you are the high bidder at 11 am on the day of the auction, an hour before the auction begins, then you have simply won the right to have the computer bid for you during the Virtual Live Auction. You have not won the vehicle, the auction hasn't even started. The computer will bid for you INCREMENTLY, bidding up one bid at a time until you either win the vehicle or get outbid. This is just like you clicking your mouse button during the Live Virtual Auction. The computer will not just throw your high bid amount at the vehicle. With Preliminary bidding you will not have to sit at the computer waiting for your vehicle to come up, and you will not have worry about your computer locking up or the internet connection going down and losing the bid. But there are some disadvantages. Once you are the high preliminary bidder, you cannot raise your bid, you cannot lower your bid, and your cannot retract your bid. The only way to get out of the bid is to be outbid during the preliminary time frame. Then your money and bid count are freed up. For most people, especially new bidders, this is the difficult part of Preliminary bidding. How much should you bid? This is where doing your homework and formulating a bidding strategy comes in. On the plus side, in placing a preliminary bid you can't get caught up in a bidding war. Traditionally, people will pay more money during a live auction versus a preliminary or closed bid-type auction. This is why the auctions prefer you to bid in the "live-type" venue. Copart will give you 5 free days of storage if you win the vehicle on a Virtual Live bid, versus only 2 free days of storage on a Preliminary bid. There is actually one way to raise your bid above your Preliminary Bid amount during the live auction, but we will not guarantee it. If you have a Preliminary bid and you are watching the Virtual Live Auction, and you have just been out bid, at that very moment you can jump in and start bidding as long as you have not reached your max bid limit on your A&A account. If you try to enter a bid before the bidding goes over your Preliminary Bid, the Live Auction will consider it as a completely new bid and it won't work. Some bidders will do both types of bids to cover themselves, especially on a one time only, must have vehicle. |
