Risks One of our goals is to make sure the bidder understands the risks of buying a vehicle from a salvage auction. These vehicles are not inspected or test driven. "AS IS WHERE IS" means no exceptions. Inspecting a vehicle is the obvious first step in lowering your risk. If for some reason you have won a vehicle without inspecting it first, you have the opportunity to inspect the vehicle when it is brought out to the parking lot to be loaded on the transporter. If you see any new problems with the vehicle like new damage or missing parts not shown on the vehicle details page, you may go talk to the general manager before the vehicle leaves the Copart parking lot. Once the vehicle leaves Copart's parking lot (Copart property) all bets are off. You have no recourse whatsoever for any vehicle issues, new, old, disclosed or not. AS IS WHERE IS. One of the most common misunderstandings involves the "Run and Drive Verification". This may sound like you can get in the vehicle and drive away, but that is not what it means. "Run and Drive Verification" only means the engine will start and idle, and the vehicle will pull forward a few feet under it's own power. . So an engine could have a severe rod knock, almost no oil pressure, and be blowing black smoke, but guess what? It starts and idles, and will pull forward, so it can be listed as "Run and Drive Verification". Further more, this verification is null and void at the time of pick up. Copart will not guarantee the engine will start at the time of pick up At the yard you may ask that the engine be started for any "Run and Drive Verification" vehicle. This alone should be enough reason to inspect or have the vehicles inspected before bidding on them. "Keys Available" is misunderstood. Very simply, Copart will not guarantee the keys at the time of pick up. Everybody takes a risk on the transmission and driveline. No other way to say it. These vehicles are not test driven. Copart and A&A do not guarantee that these vehicles will pass smog, or brake and lamp inspections. History reports may be run on the vehicle if the full VIN is available. Sometimes these are helpful, sometimes not. Study the vehicle information page very carefully. Print it out. Make your notes on it. Is the odometer "Actual" or "Not Actual"? What type of title does it have? Is this title type viable in your state? Is the bidding On Minimum or On Approval? Are there any notes, like "DMV fees due"? Do not rush into bidding. Many bidders that sign up at the last moment are the ones that have problems. Some great deals can be found at Copart, but remember our motto- "Be Careful, Do Your Homework". |
